Journey of Becoming a DJ
It’s not been too long since I started this electrifying journey. I’ve been DJing for just over three years now, immersing myself in the pulsating world of underground electronic music — House and Techno being my signature sound. Beyond spinning tracks, I’ve ventured into creating entertaining and educational content, even launching my own podcast series. Through this platform, I’ve had the privilege of interviewing some of the top artists from around the globe, learning and sharing their inspiring stories.
Growing up, I was always a music nerd. Music was my escape, my sanctuary. From Bollywood to Rock, Metal, Hip-Hop, Trance, and beyond, I’ve traversed the spectrum of genres throughout different phases of my life. Yet, the idea of building a career in music seemed like a distant dream.
Like for many, the Covid-19 pandemic became a turning point for me. It forced me to confront some of life’s biggest questions: Who am I? What do I really want? Having worked in the corporate world for nearly a decade, I realized the grind was draining my energy and passion. I craved something more, something fulfilling — and music was the answer. Taking the plunge, I left my corporate job to pursue my calling full-time. While I still dabble in marketing on the side, my heart and focus remain steadfastly on my music.
Starting out as a DJ is no cakewalk. The industry demands everything from you — your time, energy, and unwavering dedication. It’s a tough gig, one that often takes a toll on both mental and physical health. Add to that the anxiety of leaving a stable job, and you’ve got a recipe for sleepless nights. But I’ve learned to embrace the grind. If you’re clear on your mission, you find ways to navigate the challenges. Success doesn’t come overnight. It’s the result of consistent hard work, day in and day out, with the right mindset and a solid support system.
One of the biggest challenges in this industry is its limited market size. There are too many talented individuals vying for a slice of a very small pie. This often forces even seasoned artists to maintain side hustles to sustain themselves. However, the industry is growing, and that’s a positive sign. With time, dedication, and collective effort, we’re working toward full cultural acceptance of electronic music in India.
Another significant hurdle is the lack of professionalism and accountability. Coming from a structured corporate background, I find the disorganization in the music industry glaring. Issues like delayed payments, poor communication, and unmet responsibilities are rampant. I believe in calling out such behavior and fostering a culture of professionalism to elevate our industry standards.
Lastly, there’s a tendency for organizers and party-goers to look to the West for music and artists, overlooking the incredible talent we have here in India. This is a complex issue, as electronic music is still relatively novel in the country. However, I encourage people to look inward and explore the phenomenal work of Indian artists. Trust me, the talent here will blow you away!
The road ahead is thrilling and full of promise. My primary focus for 2025 is to release original music that resonates with audiences worldwide. Sharing pieces of my soul through my tracks is a dream I’m determined to realize.
Our podcast series is another exciting frontier. It’s been gaining significant recognition, and I’m committed to enhancing the quality of our guests and conversations. Additionally, I’m focused on growing as a DJ, collaborating with the right people, learning, and evolving every single day.
Though I’m still early in my career, I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come. The moments that make it all worthwhile are when I see a dancefloor full of smiling faces, people letting go of their troubles and losing themselves in the music. That’s the magic I live for.
The journey is challenging, but the rewards are unparalleled. With every beat I drop, I’m reminded of why I chose this path — to connect, to inspire, and to celebrate the universal language of music.
