From Backstage to Spotlight

I’ve always loved music—every part of it. The rhythm, the emotion, the way a good melody can make your day or save your life. But I think the moment I truly fell into rap happened in the most unexpected place: middle school band practice.

Back then, I wasn’t a frontman. I was a backup singer in a band we’d put together at school. One of the guys in the group—Josh—was the rapper. I’d watch him, lowkey mesmerized, as he pieced words together with this effortless cool. His flow was fast, confident, and clever. I remember thinking, how does he do that?

That curiosity sparked something. I started listening to the greats—Eminem, NF, MF Doom—artists who wielded words like weapons and used them to express pain, power, and purpose. I started writing my own lyrics, scribbling in notebooks between classes, staying up late piecing together rhymes. High school became my personal bootcamp for rap. I didn’t just write—I studied the craft, dissected flows, obsessed over syllables. And eventually, I started freestyling, performing for small groups of friends, and slowly stepping into the spotlight.

But rap didn’t just give me a voice—it helped me fight my inner battles.

Back in school, I struggled deeply with self-confidence. Mentally, I was in a rough place. My mind often felt like a war zone, and music became the one thing that made sense. Writing bars helped ease the weight of everyday life. Some of my most introspective lyrics came during my darkest moments. And while a few people tried to help, there’s a line by Tyler, The Creator that always stuck with me: "Nobody could fulfill me like this music shit does." And yeah, that really hits home.

I’ve always had this strange duality within me—loving the energy of a crowd but also craving solitude. That’s the balancing act I face as a rapper. Born in India, raised partly abroad, I came back to Chennai for high school and eventually moved north for college. I carry all those pieces of my identity with me, and I try to pour that complexity into my music. I want anyone—no matter where they’re from—to hear a part of themselves in my verses.

One of the biggest turning points in my journey was landing my first paid gig. The money? Cool. But the real thrill was sharing the stage with some of the most talented rappers and singers I’ve seen in Chennai. Even more surreal? I wrote the hook for a collaborative track we performed. That moment made me believe—I can be a writer. A real one. And in rap, that’s everything.

Performing in college has been another unforgettable part of this ride. Standing onstage in front of hundreds of people, watching them vibe to your words—it’s electric. And winning a rap battle in Chennai? Easily one of my proudest moments. Not just because of the win, but because of the people I met. Talented, driven, inspiring artists who push me to level up every day.

It’s been a journey—meeting people, building a name, and creating music that reflects every layer of who I am. And I’m just getting started.

As an emerging artist, I plan to keep grinding—more gigs, more tracks, more stages. It’s my dream to represent myself and my country on a global stage. I want to show the world that you can be one of the greatest, right here from India. Step by step, verse by verse, I’m building something that I hope will echo far beyond me.
