A Journey from Theatre to Television Fame

Growing up in the serene town of Ayodhya, I was a dreamer. I moved to Lucknow for my graduation, carrying the simplicity of my upbringing and a restless yearning to carve out my place in the world. Life had its plans, and fate introduced me to a friend who changed everything.

One day, I saw him anchoring on Doordarshan. The sight of him on television was mesmerizing, and the very next day in class, I couldn’t stop marveling at the fact that the person I had just seen on TV was sitting beside me.

A spark ignited within me that day. I decided, “I want to be on TV too.” When I shared this newfound dream with my friend, he chuckled and said, “It’s not that easy. You should come and see the theatre first.” Intrigued, I took his advice and went to watch a play.

The actors were phenomenal. Their expressions, delivery, and stage presence left me in awe. But after the show, when I spoke to my friend, he shared a harsh reality: he earned just ₹500 a month for his performances. Despite the challenges, I was undeterred. I joined a theatre group and took my first steps into the world of acting.

Theatre changed me. It was more than just a platform—it was a mirror that reflected my potential and a crucible that refined my craft. But my father, a diligent officer in the forest department, didn’t share my enthusiasm. He wanted me to pursue an MBA, believing that acting wasn’t a stable career, especially for someone from a small town like ours.

Yet, my resolve was unshaken. I knew the road would be tough, but I was determined to make it. Over time, I earned recognition in Lucknow’s theatre circles. I decided that before heading to Mumbai, I would establish a strong foundation.

In 2010, I auditioned for and got selected by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). I made a promise to myself: I wouldn’t rely on my father’s money in Mumbai. With savings that covered six months' rent, I embarked on my journey to the city of dreams.

Mumbai wasn’t easy, but persistence paid off. I landed my first film, NH10, alongside Anushka Sharma. This milestone gave me the confidence to push forward. Soon after, I collaborated with Rajit Kapoor Sir to start a theatre group and had the privilege of performing Broadway shows in Dubai in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

When I returned to India, television embraced me with open arms. I was cast in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, a show that made me a household name. Following this success, I ventured into web series, with projects on both Amazon and Netflix. Another highlight was my role in the beloved TV show Bas Itna Sa Khwaab, which touched the hearts of many.

To the youth, my message is simple, Believe in yourself. Choose a goal, focus on it with all your heart, and avoid distractions. Trust your instincts, work hard, and stay close to your parents. Most importantly, don’t let stress or challenges dim your light. Every dream is achievable if you hold on to it and keep moving forward.
